The Rise of Sustainable and Green Finance

Despite stiff global economic competition and hard hits by COVID-19, climate change remains a topic never far away from the news headlines.  This is an issue that affects everybody and every industry, and there is an apparent need for a unified and cooperative approach to tackling the problem.  That’s why the vast majority of businesses see sustainability as a priority.  The transition to a green economy will play a crucial role in this process. That creates a huge demand for professionals who are knowledgeable of finance, sustainability, climate change, and related technological solutions.

HKUST is committed to contributing to global sustainability by nurturing young talents through interdisciplinary broad-based learning experiences that cut across business and environment, science, and technology. In response to the surging demand on talents, the School of Business and Management and the Division of Environment and Sustainability offer its first-of-its-kind 4-year BSc program in Sustainable and Green Finance to fill the talent gap and help develop Hong Kong into a leading international green finance centre.

The BSc in Sustainable and Green Finance will equip students with the essential knowledge and skills to become influential leaders and managers that can lead and integrate Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategies into finance and investments, especially in contributing to the economic and social development of Hong Kong, the Greater Bay, and beyond.  The curriculum covers a wide range of sustainability and green finance topics, including climate and ESG, risk management, statistics and programming, big data, operations management, public policy, etc.

We invite students with a strong passion in developing their Sustainable and Green Finance careers to apply for the program.  If there are any aspects of the program you would like to discuss further or any green finance queries we can help with, we would be pleased to hear from you.
