The admission into the BSc in Sustainable and Green Finance is mainly Program-Based whereby the majority of students will be admitted directly from secondary schools, whether locally or overseas. Students will also be admitted School-based by the School of Business and Management at the end of year-1 through the major selection exercise. In addition, students from other schools will be admitted via program transfer.

Program-based Admissions – JUPAS & NON-JUPAS

For program-based admissions, students are recruited and directly admitted from secondary schools, whether locally (JUPAS) or overseas (NON-JUPAS) and must fulfill the minimum requirements of admissions by the School of Business and Management (SBM). For more qualification information, refer to:

An admission interview is required and shortlisted students will be individually invited.

School-based Admissions – Major Selection

For school-based admissions, students already enrolled in the School of Business and Management, can apply for the BSc in Sustainable and Green Finance major during the major selection exercise at the end of year-1. For more details, refer to:

Interested students can join the major selection information sessions held each semester for more details.

Program Transfer-in

HKUST students (2022/23 intake or after) who already have their first major (except SGFN) but consider changing their first majors to SGFN can apply for program transfer. Application will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Expectation for Applicants
•    Strong interest in sustainable and green finance
•    Ability to succeed in sustainable and green finance related career
•    Ability to perform well academically in SGFN program

Minimum Requirement
•    CGA 3.3 or above
•    Meet all other SGFN admission requirements in Major Selection Exercise

Application Timeline
For SBM students
Application will only be considered at the end of student’s 3rd term. In addition, the program transfer applications will be considered after the main round of Major Selection Exercise and when there is still quota left for the intake cohort.

For non-SBM students 
Application will only be at the end of student’s 2nd term or 3rd term. In addition, the program transfer applications will be considered after the main round of Major Selection Exercise and when there is still quota left for the intake cohort.

•    For program transfer to be effective in Fall term, all relevant documents must be submitted by July 15.
•    For program transfer to be effective in Spring term, all relevant documents must be submitted by January 3.

Application Procedure
Please submit an online application via HERE and upload the following materials by the application deadline:
•    Latest transcript
•    Resume
•    Personal statement, with approximately 500 words, to explain why you want to transfer to SGFN program
•    Study plan that shows it is feasible for you to graduate within a normal 4-year period.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an interview. The SGFN program team will contact you for the interview within 2 weeks after your submission of application materials.

Declaring Additional Major

With the approval of the relevant Major-program Coordinators, students may complete the requirements for more than one major program and have these programs appear on their transcript. Due to the quota limitation, SGFN will only accept few applications for program transfer and declaring additional major in SGFN.

Requirements on Students Applying for Additional Major

  • To graduate with an additional major, students must complete at least 20 single-counted credits. These 20 credits cannot be used to fulfill any other requirements for graduation except for the 120-credit degree requirement.
  • Students should be able to finish all major and additional major courses within the normative 4 years of study with a normal credit load (18 credits per term or up to 21 credits if CGA ≥ 3.3).
     

Additional Major for Currently Enrolled SGFN Students
Students registered as SGFN major are possible to declare additional major if

  • approval is obtained from the department of the additional major; and
  • approval is obtained from SGFN Program Co-Directors
     

Application Deadline
Subject to the department offering the additional major. Please contact the respective department for details.
 

Non-SGFN Students Pursuing and Additional Major in SGFN
For students who want to declare SGFN as their additional major, applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis, and the quota is very limited each year. Your application must be approved by both SGFN Program Co-Directors and the UG Coordinator of your first major.
 

Application Deadline

  • For additional major to be effective in Fall term, all relevant documents must be submitted by July 15.
  • For additional major to be effective in Spring term, all relevant documents must be submitted by January 3.
  • Shortlisted candidates will receive interview invitations by July 22 for Fall term, and January 10 for Spring term.

  • Latest unofficial transcript
  • Curriculum of both the first major and additional major programs
  • Resume
  • Study plan (please contact Mr. Miles NG at bmmiles@ust.hk for the study plan template). Study plan must show the feasibility to graduate within a normal 4-year period.
